Sumaila-Volvo Graduate Prize in Environmental Sustainability Applicants: check with graduate program (likely spring 2020); Graduate program nomination deadline: likely May 2020 A $4,000 prize has been established by Dr. Rashid Sumaila (2017 Volvo Environment Prize laureate) for a Master’s or Ph.D. student whose peer-reviewed publications to date are expected to have the most significant impact on the field of environmental sustainability.
Rio Tinto Graduate Scholarship Program Check with graduate program; Graduate program nomination deadline: likely May 2020 Rio Tinto offers an $18,000 research scholarship for a UBC graduate student in a field of pure or applied science related to Rio Tinto's activities.
DEGIRS Bursary Likely May 2020 The Division of Engineers and Geoscientists in the Resource Sector (DEGIRS) offers a $2,000 bursary aimed at advancing engineering and geosciences education and practices in BC. Studies should relate directly to professional engineering and/or professional geoscience in the resource sector.
Elizabeth Henry Scholarship for Communities and Environmental Health Likely May 2020 The Elizabeth Henry Scholarship for Communities and Environmental Health supports graduate students working on research projects in partnership with BC communities that are addressing environmental health issues and promoting environmental sustainability through cooperative community initiatives.
Organization of American States (OAS) Fellowships Programs Likely May 2020 Academic scholarships are awarded to undertake graduate studies that lead to a degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) and/or graduate research at a university or higher learning institution in an OAS Member State. The competition is open to students in all disciplines (natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences and arts). Scholarships are not offered for studies in the medical sciences and the learning of new languages.

Karl C. Ivarson Scholarship for Students in Soil Science and Related Studies Likely May 2020 Dr. Karl C. Ivarson Scholarship provides financial support to students entering second or subsequent year of graduate studies in soil science (in areas of agriculture, environment, agro-ecology or other related disciplines). Candidates must hold Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residence status in Canada and be enrolled in their graduate program for at least one semester beyond the application deadline.
Vancouver Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation Scholarship Likely May 2020 The Vancouver Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation (VKCSF) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing scholarships to qualified students with Korean heritage or to those pursuing academic studies related to Korea. VKCSF encourages students to contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the Korean-Canadian community and the wider Canadian society.
Royal Canadian Legion Masters Scholarship in Veteran Health Research Likely June 2020 The Royal Canadian Legion offers an annual entrance scholarship of $30,000 ($15,000/year for 2 years) to a Master’s level student specializing in research related to Veterans and their families.
Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC) Graduate Student Award of Merit Usually December Awards of $3,000 each will be awarded women graduate students who have demonstrated leadership while maintaining exemplary academic records. UBC may nominate one student to the Western Provinces competition every four years. The next competition will be in 2021.
Graduate Global Leadership Fellowship No longer accepting applications Fellowships for international students with leadership in humanitarian and development work in their home country
Graduate Student Travel Fund Applications are accepted year-round The Travel Fund provides up to $500 in travel support for students presenting at conferences.
International Tuition Award International students are automatically considered for this award. No application is required. The International Tuition Award assists international graduate students with their tuition fees if they are registered full-time in research-oriented master’s and doctoral programs.
Graduate Support Initiative (GSI) Awards Check with graduate program The Graduate Support Initiative (GSI) is a program for funding graduate students through entrance scholarships, multi-year funding packages, tuition awards and scholarship top-ups.
Department Awards Check with graduate program Various awards are offered to students on the recommendation of a graduate program, Department, or Faculty.
Killam Fellowship Travel and Research Allowance Applications accepted throughout the year. The UBC Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund for Advanced Studies provides current Killam Doctoral Scholars and Postdoctoral Research Fellows with an allowance to promote travel for research and to attend and/or present at academic meetings.
Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) No application deadline The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program provides funding for UBC's best PhD, DMA, and MDPhD students of up to $18,200 per year plus tuition.
