Schmidt Science Fellowships Applicants: check with graduate program; Graduate program nomination deadline: Wednesday, 17 July 2019 The Schmidt Science Fellows program aims to provide the next generation of scientific leaders and innovators with an exceptional opportunity. Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 and are supported by the program to undertake a full-time, postdoctoral study for at least one year in a world-leading laboratory in a field different from their existing area of expertise. Fellows also spend five weeks during their Fellowship year at four residential meetings around the globe where they receive bespoke training to help them become the next generation of science leaders.

International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Research Awards 4:00pm (EDT) on Wednesday, 18 September 2019 The IDRC Research Awards are offered to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries enrolled in a master’s or a doctoral degree at a recognized university OR who have completed a master’s or a doctoral degree at a recognized university. Research award recipients will undertake a one-year paid program of research focused on at least one developing country.

ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award Likely early October for graduate programs to submit draft nomination statement Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) established the Doctoral Dissertation Award program to recognize and encourage superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in computer science and engineering. The award is presented each June at the ACM Awards Banquet and is accompanied by a prize of $20,000 plus travel expenses to the banquet. All winning dissertations are published exclusively in print and electronic formats as part of the ACM Books Series, which includes distribution through the ACM Digital Library. Honorable Mention(s) may also be awarded, with a prize of $10,000 shared among recipients. Financial sponsorship of the award is provided by Google.

Future Forests Fellowship Not accepting applications at this time An annual $70,000 fellowship has been established by the Moss Rock Park Foundation. This prestigious fellowship will be awarded to an incoming PhD student in the Faculty of Forestry whose intended studies fit within one of the following areas of excellence within the Faculty: Forest Products Biotechnology; Bioenergy; Forest Genomics; Climate Change; Urban Forestry; Forest Management; Conservation; Forested Landscapes; Salmon Ecology; Forest Health; Forests and Indigenous Peoples; Forests and Human Health. The fellowship holder will receive this funding for up to four years and only one student may be in receipt of the fellowship at a time. The fellowship will be awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
