Predicting Posttraumatic Stress Symptomology in Emergency Medical Personnel

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

To learn and become a well-rounded researcher. I have always been interested in how relationships can impact an individual's health. A graduate degree at UBC allows me to grow as a young researcher by learning from some of the world's best researchers in Psychology.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

My supervisor, Dr. Anita DeLongis, was the main reason I decided to study at UBC. Our research interests and personalities were very complimentary. The beautiful city of Vancouver also made it quite easy to settle on UBC.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

UBC is one of the leading researcher universities in the world and the Health Psychology department is the best fit for my research interests.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

You have to mention the weather right? It is a beautiful city. Further, UBC arguably has the most aesthetically pleasing campus in Canada.

What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?

I like to talk with people and learn from absorption. I constantly ask for help or ask about others' experiences. It has helped me improve as a researcher and as a person.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Do not miss the chance to socialize and meet new people inside and outside of your program. The friends I have made across my graduate studies have helped me academically, personally, and professionally every day. Research should not be an isolating experience.
