Visiting Graduate Students

Visiting students must be registered in course work, or non-credit activity (if doing research only) by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Visiting graduate students who wish to take credit courses must register for those courses and will be assessed tuition fees at the prevailing graduate per credit rate, (see Fees section of the UBC Calendar) plus authorized student fees. Other visiting graduate students may register for the non-credit activity 'Visiting Graduate Student' (VGRD500 for master's students and VGRD 600 for doctoral students). The fee for each registration in this activity, which covers either Winter Session or Summer Session, is equal to the tuition fee for one credit of coursework plus authorized student fees.

Visiting International Research Students

A VIRS is an international student who is enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or graduate-equivalent program at another university, or is a participant in a UBC-recognized (through Go Global) "bridging" program between undergraduate and graduate studies, who visits UBC for one month or longer to conduct research only.

Please see the VIRS section of the Go Global website for more information. You may view the list of faculty members who indicated that they are available to host research students as well.
