Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?
I have always wanted to have the flexibility to do work that interests me, learn about things that I enjoy, and teach that to others. A career as a professor fulfills that, and doing a Ph.D. is a crucial step towards this goal.
Why did you decide to study at UBC?
In addition to being one of the top schools in Canada, I was impressed by the work of my current supervisors and wanted to learn from them and follow their footsteps.
What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?
The chance to work with and learn from top professors in my field. There's also a good mix of offered courses.
What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?
I was surprised by how amazing the summer weather is and the number of outdoor activities that easily accessible from UBC.
What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?
Doing an MSc degree taught me a little bit about doing research and writing articles.
What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?
Cycling and Photography.
What advice do you have for new graduate students?
Be sure that you are passionate about your field of studies/research before pursuing it. Work hard, but don't forget to have fun.
