Graduate Student in Soft Matter Physics

Candidates are invited to apply for a position as a graduate student at UBC in the lab of Prof. Frostad. The successful candidate will take a lead role on one of several exciting projects in soft matter physics, related to the development of new interfacial characterization methodologies. Projects will involve one or more of the following activities: design and fabrication of novel instruments, software programming for hardware automation and data analysis, design and execution of experiments with novel devices, and/or theoretical developments for analysis of novel data. The candidate’s specific project will depend on a combination of the interests of the candidate and the needs of ongoing projects.

Applicants must have a degree in Physics or a related field.

The following qualifications are a plus, but not required:

  • Experience in emulsion science, rheology, or soft matter physics.
  • Strong experimental skills, a demonstrated mechanical aptitude, and ability to use Matlab or Python for scientific computing
  • Strong communication skills in writing and oral presentations

More information about the group and past projects can be found on the lab website at: https://food.chbe.ubc.ca/.
