UBC researchers supported through federal investments in Tri-Agency funding competitions

More than 165 doctoral students and 3 postdoctoral fellows were recognized for their achievements in research at UBC, as well as 232 master's students.

On July 9, the Government of Canada announced the award recipients of the three federal research granting agencies, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), were awarding $1.3 billion in the latest cohort of scholarship and fellowship recipients.

These awards recognize and support the next generation of research at UBC and across Canada, doing research for the 2025/26 academic year. More than 4,761 scholarships and fellowships have been awarded for research training, including 232 master's students, and 165 doctoral students and 3 postdoctoral fellows from UBC. The programs include:

“These researchers aren’t just imagining the future—they’re building it. Their work covers topics such as pandemic readiness and cutting-edge technology, and it reflects the Government of Canada’s commitment to driving innovation, strengthening the economy and tackling the challenges that matter most to Canadians. With this support, we’re empowering the talent that will shape a more resilient, inclusive and globally competitive Canada.”
