What does this mean for prospective students?

This faculty member may hold full supervisory privileges if he/she becomes affiliated with a specific graduate program.

What does this mean for UBC departments and graduate programs?

Eligible by nature of faculty appointment for membership in G+PS and accompanying full supervisory privileges. Must be approved by disciplinary Faculty and be formally affiliated with a graduate program to become a G+PS member.

For new faculty who are affiliated with your graduate program, please follow the instructions below and send a Calendar update to G+PS to inform us of the affiliation and confirm their membership in G+PS.

Instructions for formally affiliating a faculty member with your program

These faculty members

  • are listed in the admissions system as research supervisors;
  • can be given access as evaluators to the admissions system; and
  • automatically have an extended supervisor profile on the G+PS website.

If the program does not wish to affiliate the faculty member with their program, then permission of the Dean of G+PS is required for them to supervise or co-supervise students, or to serve on doctoral committees.

What does this mean for prospective students?

This faculty member may supervise graduate students, provided the home department/graduate program agrees.

What does this mean for UBC departments and graduate programs?

Members of G+PS:

  • have full supervisory privileges
  • must be listed in the UBC Calendar under the graduate program(s) with which they are affiliated;
  • are listed in the admissions system as research supervisors;
  • can be given access as evaluators to the admissions system; and
  • automatically have an extended supervisor profile on the G+PS website.

What does this mean for prospective students?

This faculty member may be able to supervise graduate students. Some departments put restrictions on supervisory privileges, e.g. approving specific faculty for only master's students or as co-supervisor for doctoral students. Applicants should check in their correspondence with the program/faculty member what supervisory privileges a faculty member has.

What does this mean for UBC departments and graduate programs?

Partners are not eligible for membership in G+PS . They require the approval of the Faculty of Medicine (via a graduate program) in order to hold supervisory roles and to serve on doctoral supervisory committees.

Partners who have been granted supervisory privileges can supervise or co-supervise either master's or doctoral students, or both:

  • are listed in the admissions system as research supervisors;
  • can be given access as evaluators to the admissions system; and
  • automatically have an extended supervisor profile on the G+PS website once approved.

What does this mean for prospective students?

Prospective students can only conduct research as part of a graduate degree program with this faculty member under special circumstances.

What does this mean for UBC departments and graduate programs?

Not eligible by nature of faculty appointment for membership in G+PS. Must be approved by the Dean of G+PS to hold any supervisory roles for doctoral students, and to supervise or co-supervise master’s students.

Non-G+PS members:

  • cannot be listed in the admissions system and
  • cannot have an extended supervisor profile on the G+PS website
  • can have a self-provisioned standard researcher profile.
