Quantifying light use efficiency using remote sensing
Nicholas Coops
Wageningen
Netherlands

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

Motivated by enthusiasm to investigate and understand the world we live in, a career in science was my obvious choice. UBC gives me exactly what I need to pursue this career in the field I am working in.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

UBC has an outstanding reputation in conducting research within the field of forestry and remote sensing related applications.

What do you hope to accomplish with your research?

A better understanding of the vertical distribution of light use efficiency by modelling the canopies' internal shading and sun illumination angles and modelling the plants' response to the received, incoming light intensity.

What are your future career goals?

Providing a significant contribution to our understanding of vegetation-atmosphere interactions.

What has been your most memorable Vancouver experience so far?

Must have been the black bear at 20 metres distance...

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Don't think too long. :) It's great here.
