Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?
I chose to pursue a graduate degree to develop the expertise needed to address complex health system challenges, advance evidence-informed policy and make a meaningful impact on youth mental health.
Why did you decide to study at UBC?
I was drawn to UBC’s strong reputation for interdisciplinary research, global outlook and commitment to innovation, as well as its location in British Columbia where my research is directly relevant and impactful.
What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?
The best surprise coming back to UBC (after both my BSc and MPH) has been learning even more (while still getting lost on campus).
What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?
My previous academic training and professional experience in youth mental health research and community engagement have equipped me with strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset and a deep commitment to improving health systems, which are core foundations that prepare me well for success in my PhD program.
What advice do you have for new graduate students?
Continue to ask challenging questions, rely on the supportive networks with peers and mentors and remember to care for your well-being!

This research examines youth mental health service access and resource allocation in British Columbia, aiming to identify current challenges and opportunities for system improvement. By bringing together the perspectives of young people, service providers and policymakers, this work seeks to inform evidence-based strategies to strengthen mental health supports and reduce barriers to care.
