Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

For me, a graduate degree means spending two years focusing on key questions about my world. The hardest part of deciding to pursue graduate studies was just picking which interest to focus on. I feel incredibly fortunate to spend so much time learning, reading, writing, and researching.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

UBC was the right fit for me because it had the program, supervisor, and location that I wanted.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

In Educational Studies, the Society, Culture, and Politics in Education (SCPE) stream provides the opportunity to take a critical look at the factors that shape our education. I was excited to see a program that put this lens front and centre.

It's good to have a starting point, but be ready to grow, too.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

I would recommend coming with ideas for what you want to focus on during grad school, as it helps shape your path, but remember that what you learn during grad school will also change how you imagine your thesis. Essentially, it's good to have a starting point, but be ready to grow, too.
