Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

I started a Masters of Engineering (M.Eng) degree in the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at UBC because I wanted to gain some education and skills that would ease my transition into the mining industry.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

The motivation to pursue a PhD was different than the motivation to pursue a masters degree. During my masters research, I had a good experience with the subject matter and my supervisor so I decided to stay.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

I can always find a new place around UBC. It helps that there is continuous construction, so I probably will not run out of places to discover before completing my PhD. Also, the sun set is often visible across the strait in the winter from the 5th floor of the Frank Forward building.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Find an aspect of your research that truly interests you. It's much easier to work when you are driven by curiosity. Test out your ideas as soon as possible. Don't be afraid to try something different if what you are doing is not working. Read a lot.
