Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

I decided to pursue a graduate degree in School Psychology as I knew that I wanted to work within schools and with children, while continuing to conduct research. This program allows me to engage in both of these pursuits equally.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

In addition to the draw of being located in Vancouver, UBC has a strong School Psychology program that is dedicated to both research and practice.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

The best surprise about living in Vancouver has been the great friendships I have formed here. In addition, Vancouver is an amazing and beautiful city, with much to offer, and I never tire of the many experiences this city has to offer.

What do you hope to accomplish with your research?

I hope that my research will contribute to the research on school-based interventions, which may allow school personnel to better support students and prevent the development of mental health problems.

What has winning a major award meant to you?

Winning a major award has provided me with encouragement to continue conducting research in this field. In addition, it allows me to devote more time to my research and learning, as well as to attend and present at conferences.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

I would tell new graduate students to enjoy the experience and to maintain a balance between life and graduate school. Make sure to enjoy the city and take some time for yourself!
