The province of British Columbia has funded BC Graduate Scholarships (BCGS) in any field of study, with emphasis on research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and support for Indigenous students. The scholarships of $17,500 will be awarded by graduate programs and disciplinary Faculties.

 

Eligibility

BCGS recipients must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Registered as a full-time student in a UBC graduate program throughout the funding period
  • Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents
  • Master's and Doctoral students are both eligible

Application Procedures

Application procedures are set by graduate programs.

Nomination Procedures

  • Graduate programs that received a BCGS allocation from their disciplinary Dean's Office are responsible for selecting their BCGS recipients. Once recipients have been selected, programs use the awards recommendation form to submit their recommendations to G+PS to be assigned.
  • The award number is 6768.
  • The value of each scholarship is $17,500*.  Offers cannot be split; they must be offered at $17,500 (exception: department has partial funds remaining due to a student's early program completion).
  • The Round 4 (of funding from the province) awards are available for students for the the Sept 2023-Aug 2024 or Sept 2024-Aug 2025 academic years. Graduate program should aim to submit recommendations for all Round 4 BCGS recipients by the end of December 2024.

*As of the Round 3 (2022) round of BCGS funding onwards, the provincial government has indicated offers will be $17,500.  Prior to this funding round, all offers were $15,000.
