Search: Associate Dean, Policy, pro tem

UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) at UBC Vancouver invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Policy, pro tem. This is a 6-month, term position with a 30% time commitment, and will start as soon as the individual is available, and no later than July 15, 2024.

The Associate Dean, Policy, pro tem will provide academic leadership in supporting graduate programs, working collaboratively to:

  • Oversee the G+PS office’s role in academic unit reviews.
  • Chair the Graduate Academic Policy Committee and oversee the development and alteration of UBC policies relevant to graduate education.
  • Provide academic decision-making and support, and handle requests for exceptions to policy areas in areas including but not limited to doctoral examination processes, supervisory committee membership, and thesis-related issues.
  • Serve as the Faculty representative on the UBC Conflict of Interest Committee.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

The incumbent’s work and activities will be integrated with broader efforts by the G+PS Dean’s office, including those related to graduate supervision, student financial support, EDI, student well-being, student development, and academic oversight.

Candidates should be tenured UBC faculty members with accomplished experience and interest in graduate education, preferably, as a graduate program director. An administrative stipend and/or funding for either teaching release or research support are provided.
