Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

During my undergraduate degree I discovered that I had a passion for both teaching and research in chemistry, which resulted in my goal of becoming a chemistry professor one day.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

UBC's chemistry department has an excellent reputation world-wide, and my research interests are well-aligned with the research programs in the department.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

With the facilities that UBC offers and the pedigree of the professors in the chemistry department at UBC, I am confident that I can carry out impactful research that I am interested in.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

For a place with a reputation of having a lot of rain, the city and campus look spectacular in the summertime with lots of sun and beautiful areas to explore!

What aspect of your graduate program do you enjoy the most or are looking forward to with the greatest curiosity?

UBC and the chemistry department, in particular, assist graduate students in attending research conferences both in Canada and internationally, and I am excited to travel to and present my research at these conferences.

What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?

Learning to pay attention to small details and work diligently towards a goal has been most helpful to me in my program at UBC.

What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?

In my spare time I like to go on walks around campus and in the various parks in Vancouver, which are beautiful in the summertime (and in the snow).

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Keep a positive attitude, work hard, and be sure to enjoy the sights and city while you're here!
