From displacement to mixing of two complex fluids with an imposed flow in a close to horizontal pipe

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

I pursued my learning process in different premium universities and worked on a number of practical projects. Therefore, I feel that I have been able to gain deep knowledge of variety aspects of science applications and skills. This nourishes my enthusiasm and motives me to learn to a greater extent.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

According to my education experiences, I think the high standards of education at UBC made me choose to come here. So far, I have been able to strongly develop my background in physics and mathematics by studying here.

What do you hope to accomplish with your research?

As a team, we have a strong desire to advance our knowledge of dynamics of oil related flows through two activities: (a) conduction of sealed laboratory displacement/mixing flow experiments, over a range of pipe orientations and with a realistic range of non-Newtonian fluid properties and flow parameters and (b) conduction of high quality flow simulations over a similar range. I think the main contribution of the generated results can be to produce a validate model which can be applied for modeling of oil field displacement/mixing flows.

What are your future career goals?

After finishing my education, I think my most important goals will be to apply my knowledge, keep it up-to-date, and contribute to solve advanced engineering current problems. I aim to first of all find myself completely appropriate for a job in which I can precisely apply the knowledge gained via studying. As an engineer, I also would be inclined to use my skills in order to solve real problems rather than only the theoretical ones. Based on the experience earned in different levels of past and future education, I hope I will be able to conduct a real project from the very beginning, with which I could not be familiar, to the end and develop my knowledge in new areas. Although I have tried my best to achieve different qualifications, I am pleased that there will be still much more to learn. Not only should I study books, but also I should attempt to learn as much as possible from people at work as well as the problems that we will solve together. In addition, I am optimistic that I could contribute to high-level engineering projects in the present state-of-the-art, which requires me to improve my knowledge via self-studying.

What has been your most memorable Vancouver experience so far?

I have made so many friends here; most of them are from different countries. I really like this multicultural environment.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

I believe that studying at UBC is really worth it. I have come to know that especially the grad school at UBC is one of the best in the world.
