Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

My career goal is to become a clinician-scientist, and a master's degree will prepare me for the research aspect of an MD/PhD program while I improve my academic and personal stats for medical school applications.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

UBC is an incredible school, specifically the medical school and their associated graduate programs. I contacted a variety of professors with projects that interested me and was drawn to radiopharmaceutical development for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Overall, the Benard Lab at the BC Cancer Research Centre drew me to UBC for its friendly environment and cutting-edge research topics.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

The interdisciplinary nature of the Interdisciplinary Oncology program drew me to attend UBC since it provides an environment where people of different backgrounds can share their specialties to solve a collective problem.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

The beauty of the campus and being surrounded by the ocean.

What do you see as your biggest challenge(s) in your future career?

Applying to and being accepted into medical school.

How do you feel your program is preparing you for those challenges?

My program puts me within the Faculty of Medicine, allowing me to meet individuals responsible for admissions to medical school. These connections will allow me to learn what it takes to get into medical school and how to become a future physician.

What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?

My three summers as an Undergraduate Student Research Awards student and honours project at the University of Winnipeg under the supervision of Dr. Melanie Martin prepared me to undertake a research project while studying courses and living in a new province.

What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?

Play soccer, bake and go to the gym.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

You can do it!!
