Dr. Michael Anthony Hunt has been extended as Dean pro tem of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) from January 1, 2025 to June 15, 2025.
Dr. Hunt has served as Dean pro tem since January 1, 2024, and previously held the role of Senior Associate Dean, Policy and Programs in G+PS since 2021.
During his first term as Dean pro tem, Dr. Hunt has emphasized the overall graduate student experience and has created a number of working groups with graduate students and campus partners – in particular the Vice President, Students – to tackle issues relevant to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows such as: health and well-being, housing, research supervision, career and professional development, and funding. He has also engaged with Faculty leadership to enhance collaboration and partnerships with graduate programs.
In his previous role as Senior Associate Dean in G+PS he enhanced collaboration and engagement between G+PS and graduate programs, as well as professional development for graduate program administrators across campus. During his time as Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Education in the Faculty of Medicine, he oversaw the implementation of a graduate student well-being strategy, a Faculty-wide peer mentorship program, a dedicated graduate program review process, and programs for supervisors and trainees to foster and maintain healthy and respectful working environments.
Dr. Michael Hunt's academic appointment is as a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. His research is at the intersection of human movement, pain and health, and is currently funded by a number of funding bodies, including CIHR and NSERC. He completed degrees at UBC and the University of Western Ontario as well as a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Melbourne. He has had the great fortune of working with many outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows over the past 15 years.
