Postdocs celebrated at 9th annual National Postdoc Appreciation Week

This year marked the ninth annual National Postdoc Appreciation Week, and UBC’s Postdoctoral Fellows Office was proud to celebrate the invaluable contributions made by UBC’s postdoctoral community at the ninth-annual National Postdoc Appreciation Week Barbecue. Held at St. John’s College on September 19, 2019, this year’s event saw over 100 people in attendance including Dean Dr. Susan Porter, Dr. Gail Murphy, Associate Vice-President of Research and Innovation, and postdocs from a wide variety of departments and faculties across campus. The PDFO wishes to thank a number of on- and off-campus organizations for their generous donations of raffle prizes to this year’s event, including Burgoo Bistro, JamJar Canteen, Koerner’s Pub, UBC Athletics and Recreation, UBC Opera, UBC Theatre and Film, Rain or Shine Ice Cream, and Tourism Vancouver.

National Postdoc Appreciation Week was established in 2010 by the National Postdoc Association as a way to create awareness of and recognize the contributions that postdocs make to research. With 2020 marking the tenth anniversary of the initiative, the PDFO encourages supervisors to recognize the efforts of their Postdocs during this week, typically held in the third week of September.

Thank you, postdocs, for all that you do to support research at UBC!
