PSI scholar publishes book about food security

As we move into an environmentally uncertain future where issues of food supply are increasingly more urgent, questions around food security are being tackled by researchers around the globe. Public Scholar Meagan Curtis collaborated with Vancouver Island residents, to tap into existing wisdom and knowledge about our food systems. Food security, Meagan’s works suggests, is the product of the many, not the few. It is forged in the connections we have between each other. The wisdom to feed ourselves is present in our communities. It is up to us to value it and take a stand in confronting that which is stopping us from practicing it.

The Alberni-Clayoquot Food Security Photobook, resulting from a collaboration between UBC and SFU demonstrates this finding both visually and in the text. Two upcoming webinars will launch the book and stimulate more discussion on food security in British Columbia. Email meagan.curtis@ubc.ca to register for the event (May 17 at 10 a.m. PST/May 18 at 7 p.m. PST). All proceeds from the sales of this book go to the Alberni Farmers' Institute.
