What are your main responsibilities or activities in your current position?
In my current role, I analyze genomics data, write manuscripts, and supervisor junior trainees.
How does your current work relate to your graduate degree?
The statistical and machine learning concepts that I was taught during grad school have proven to be directly applicable to my current genomics research.
What do you like and what do you find challenging about your current position?
The scale of the data is larger than neuroimaging, and the field is much bigger, hence more competitions.
Is your current career path as you originally intended?:
No, I was planning to become a professor.
What motivated you to pursue graduate work at UBC?
Primarily, I was motivated by the prospect of conducting interesting and innovative research.
What did you enjoy the most about your time as a graduate student at UBC?
The thing I probably enjoyed the most was meeting inspirational people at conferences.
How did the graduate degree at UBC help you achieve your career and/or personal development goals?:
What key things did you do, or what attitudes or approaches did you have, that contributed to your success?
I set up an efficient schedule to release more publications.
What is your best piece of advice for current graduate students preparing for their future careers?
Do internships at different places to find your true interest, even if it delays your graduation a little.
