Congratulations to the 68 UBC doctoral students receiving 2016 scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). These awards include the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships and the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships-Doctoral. In addition, seven postdoctoral fellowships were awarded.

These doctoral awards provide support to high calibre students in engineering and the natural sciences, allowing them to concentrate on their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields.

In 2016, UBC’s share of doctoral awards increased to 9.7% of the total offered, compared to 8.5% in spring 2015.

A full list of recipients is available on the NSERC website.

NSERC doctoral scholarships offer an annual stipend of $21,000 to $35,000 for two or three years, and NSERC postdoctoral fellowships offer an annual stipend of $45,000 for two years. In total, doctoral and postdoctoral applicants from UBC were awarded $5.99 million.

Information about applying for next year’s NSERC funding will be available on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website in July.
