Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

Pursuing your masters gives you a more in-depth understanding of your speciality and career focus. Also, a master with a thesis like the one that I am working on gives you a great insight into starting a whole project from scratch. With the abilities you achieve through your program, you will have a powerful set of tools for your next career.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

UBC was on top of my list when I wanted to apply for my graduate program. Engineering programs at UBC are undoubtedly among the best educational programs in the world. I was passionate about my research topic and my supervisors were very supportive.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

I am doing my masters in Environmental System Engineering group at the Civil Engineering department. Graduate courses that this program offers for their students are essential for every environmental engineer who wants to pursue a career after graduation. Also, there is a broad variety of research topics so anyone can find their interest.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

The campus is awesome! It's super beautiful full of colours and friendly. Studying in a great atmosphere like UBC for an international student is a one-time life opportunity.

What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?

I did my undergraduate program at one of the top universities in Iran. Besides that, I did internships before applying for the graduate program and I think combining these two prepared me for UBC.

What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?

I spend lots of time listening to music, playing tennis, doing yoga and playing the piano. Exploring new escape rooms throughout the city is another fun thing to do here.

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Do not get stuck in your research! There are lots of activities around campus and in the city that you can enjoy.
