Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

During my undergraduate studies at UBC, I had the opportunity to engage in various research projects, which deepened my passion for the field. Upon completing my degree, I felt like there was still more I wanted to explore in science, and I also wanted to take more of an independent role and see through my own research from start to finish.

Why did you decide to study at UBC?

My support network is in Vancouver, such as my friends and family, which was a big factor for me when applying to graduate school. Having also done my undergraduate degree here, I have created many working relationships with mentors who provide me with guidance and inspire me with their excitement for scientific research. Additionally, the food in Vancouver is always a bonus.

What is it specifically, that your program offers, that attracted you?

I am mentored by a couple of professors in the CELL program, and the goals and values of the program really resonated with my own.

What was the best surprise about UBC or life in Vancouver?

The number of diverse food options on campus.

What aspect of your graduate program do you enjoy the most or are looking forward to with the greatest curiosity?

I'm excited for the science!

What aspects of your life or career before now have best prepared you for your UBC graduate program?

Doing my undergraduate degree here definitely provided me with the support I need to pursue graduate school. It also allowed me to get accustomed to the campus and rain in Vancouver.

What do you like to do for fun or relaxation?

I like stay active by going to the gym, driving range or for runs. I also enjoy cooking and baking!

What advice do you have for new graduate students?

Join an intramurals team! It's fun to be active and meet new people.
