Vancouver is a bustling city with diverse culinary delights. In this blog, I’ve brought together recommendations from graduate peers and alumni, mixed with a few of my own favourites! Take some time to explore some local culinary gems, without breaking the bank.

Vancouver

Bon’s Off Broadway - An East Van classic known for its legendary $2.95 CAD breakfast. Perfect for starting your day without draining your wallet. Don't miss their lunch and dessert options either. Location: 2451 Nanaimo St.

Hawker’s Delight – A student favorite for its generous portions and budget-friendly prices. Dive into delicious Singaporean dishes like laksa and kuey teow. No worries if you're unfamiliar – the menu's photos will guide you. Location: 4127 Main St.

Madras Spice – If you're into dosa and authentic Indian cuisine, Madras Spice is your go-to. Enjoy diverse options including dosa, curries, and North Indian specials. Make sure you post about your experience in the dosa fan club on our community website. Location: 6260 Fraser St.

Raisu – If you fancy Ramen, you will find Raisu a perfect spot to visit. Cozy atmosphere, fancy décor, Raisu is located in Kitsilano and is famous for its big portions of ramen and bento boxes, all affordable and very tasty. Location: 2340 W 4th Ave.

Sal Y Limon – Enjoy generous portions of budget-friendly Mexican food like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas at Sal Y Limon. Locations: multiple; Kingsway and Fraser.

Vancouver - Downtown

The Famous Warehouse (El Furniture) – Craving pub-style eats? Try this spot for a range of meals under 10 bucks – tacos, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Location: 989 Granville St.

Viet Sub – Satisfy your Bahn Mi cravings at Viet Sub. Top-notch quality and friendly service make it a great pick for an under $10 meal. Location: 520 Robson St.

HK BBQ Master -– Satisfy your meat cravings at HK BBQ Master with mouthwatering Chinese BBQ. For a similar experience, head to Chinatown BBQ in the heart of Chinatown. Location: 4651 No. 3 Rd (HK BBQ Master); 130 E Pender St (Chinatown BBQ).

Japadog – Grab a quick, tasty Japanese-style hotdog from their food trucks stationed around the city. A variety of options ensures you'll find something you love. Locations: Various, check their website.

Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond

Sushi Garden – Japanese food enthusiasts can delight in Sushi Garden's wallet-friendly offerings. A great choice if you're in Burnaby. Locations: Multiple, check their website.

Thai Basil – Since 2008, Thai Basil has been serving up tasty, affordable Thai dishes. From curries to Pad Thai, you'll find a variety of flavors at their multiple locations across town. Locations: multiple.

Danny’s Wun Tun Restaurant – This casual eatery offers Chinese BBQ pork, congee and Cantonese fare, and locals come for their BBQ duck. You’ll find a variety of options and large portions to split. Location: Ironwood Plaza, 3050-11666 Steveston Hwy

On-campus

Don't forget on-campus choices!

Gather at Place Vanier Residence offers a $15 all-you-can-eat option.

For more variety, explore the University Village Downstairs Food Court. Location: 5726 University Blvd.

And of course, there is the Nest, UBC’s student union building with lots of delicious options.
