The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Doctoral Research Awards provide special recognition and support to students who are pursuing a doctoral degree in a health-related field. Two types of awards are available. Please be advised that an applicant can only apply to one competition in the same year:
Late applications will not be accepted.
Please note that if successful, an applicant cannot change the proposed location or institution paid from a Canadian institution (CGSD application) to a foreign institution (DFSA application) since the purpose of these competitions are different.
Note: CIHR CGSD winners will receive a $35,000/year offer. Prior to 2023, CIHR CGSD recipients received a $30,000/year stipend offer + $5,000/year research allowance.
For further information, please visit CIHR's health research training award programs page and the award listing on ResearchNet (CIHR CGSD / CIHR DFSA).
