Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?
I wanted to advance my studies in trade policy and IRs of Asia Pacific countries, particularly South Korea and PRC.
Why did you decide to study at UBC?
I chose UBC because of the good reputation and the interdisciplinary approach of the Master of Arts in Asia Pacific Policy Studies program to International Relation (IR) studies.
What do you hope to accomplish with your research?
I hope to improve both self understanding and knowledge of various social and political factors influencing the trade policy of South Korea and PRC and thus to further advance my career either in academia or in a government profession.
What are your future career goals?
I want to become a specialist in international trade and international relations of Asia Pacific countries.
What has been your most memorable Vancouver experience so far?
Making friends and developing bonds with friends with completely different backgrounds...
What advice do you have for new graduate students?
I would highlight the importance of preserving a balance while studying abroad. Socializing and active participation in extra curricular activities is critical for a successful living/studying experience. However, from my personal experience, living apart from family inclines one to lose sight of initial goals that first brought you to a foreign land. Having a religion, I found, is sometimes helpful as it provides you with a spiritiual anchor.
