Renewing Awards

A number of graduate fellowships, scholarships, and awards are offered for more than one year. Most of these awards need to be renewed annually. Examples of such awards are doctoral NSERC, doctoral SSHRC, Paetzold, Killam, and Four Year Fellowships. In order to renew these awards, students need to submit an annual progress report.

Progress reports are due at the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office June 1 for September awards, November 15 for January awards, and March 15 for May awards. Students are responsible for filling out the progress report, collecting their supervisor's comments and signature, and obtaining the approval and signature of the graduate advisor in their program.

Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies sends reminders to students who need to submit progress reports a month before the progress report is due. While the progress report is an individual award holder's responsibility, we forward the list of students whose progress reports are due to the students' graduate programs as well.

Graduate Support Initiative (GSI) Multi-Year Awards

Programs should keep in mind that in order for multi-year type GSI awards to be renewed, programs need to submit a new recommendation form for students every year. No progress report is required by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in these cases. Programs may set-up their own policies regarding renewal of multi-year GSI awards.
