Five Postdoctoral Fellows from UBC have received 2018-19 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships. Dr. Jonathon Briggs (Michael Smith Labs), Dr. Tara Dennehy (Department of Psychology), Dr. Stefan Honisch (Department of Theatre and Film), Dr. Aryan Karimi (Department of Sociology) and Dr. Benjamin Sandkam (Department of Zoology) are among the 70 recipients of the prestigious award. Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships support research that will positively contribute to Canada's economic, social, and research-based growth. These fellowships, awarded annually to the best and brightest postdoctoral applicants both national and international, provide each researcher with $140,000 over two years.
Says Dr. Honisch, “[The fellowship will] provide me with the chance to carry my research forward in new directions, and to connect my scholarly interests to communities beyond the academy, in which disabled people continue to claim our rights to be seen and heard.”

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program launches each spring, with UBC’s internal competition managed by the Postdoctoral Fellows Office. PIs who have identified outstanding researchers are encouraged to work with these researchers on Banting applications.
