Doctoral Positions in Rehabilitation Science

The Rehabilitation Program (RHSC) at The University of British Columbia, a joint program with the Department of Occupational Sciences & Occupational Therapy and the Department of Physical Therapy, is currently recruiting PhD students for Fall 2023.

The expected duration of the Doctoral program is 4 years, though it varies depending on a student’s circumstances.  

The Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD) is a program for advanced research study in the field of Rehabilitation Sciences. Rehabilitation Sciences is the study of physical and occupational performance with special emphasis on individuals with impairments and disabilities. Encompassing the three dimensions of health as determined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (body structure and function, activity, and participation), Rehabilitation Sciences spans the individual, community, and social levels of society.

Our faculty are internationally renowned scholars and educators who provide students with the opportunity to study in state of the art laboratories including the Rehabilitation Research Lab at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre and the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Research Clinic in Kelowna, to name a few.

Our faculty receive funding from provincial and national research granting agencies and are well integrated with several of the world class research facilities established in British Columbia including: Arthritis Research Centre, Brain Research Centre, Centre for Hip Health, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. With this outstanding faculty support, PhD students author numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and secure prestigious scholarships and awards.
