UBC doctoral student research has been recognized at the national level.
Two students, Simon Beaudoin and Taylor Wilson, have been awarded the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarships for their research. Across Canada, 18 doctoral students were recognized, including Simon and Taylor.
Simon Beaudoin (shown below) is a PhD student in Political Science. He is a SSHRC Doctoral Fellow, and a Fulbright Scholar (Stanford University, 2025). Integrating insights from social and natural sciences, his research examines the interplay between governance and ecological systems. He has co-founded a non-profit that provides educational resources on ecological regeneration and has previously co-authored and published his first book on biodiversity.
Taylor Wilson (shown below) is a PhD student whose research focuses on Indigenous food sovereignty. She is an Anishinaabe/Ininew/Filipina woman and will be working with the Fisher River Cree Nation in the next stage of her PhD work. She is also the recipient of a 2024 Fulbright Canada award.
For three years, each Scholar will receive up to $50,000 per year to cover tuition and living expenses, as well as an annual allowance of up to $20,000 for research, networking, and participation in Foundation activities. In total, they can benefit from up to $210,000 over the three years with the Foundation.
