All Indigenous students are invited to the 20th anniversary year of the Indigenous Graduate Student Symposium (IGSS)! This year’s symposium will be hosted on Simon Fraser University's downtown campus and virtually on March 22 and 23, 2024.

The Indigenous Graduate Student Symposium is a yearly, student-led, inter-institutional co-hosted gathering to celebrate Indigenous Graduate student research and successes. The IGSS brings together Elders, keynote speakers, and panels of emerging/well-established Indigenous scholars from across Canada and beyond. This year's theme is "Indigenous Knowledge(s) in the Academy: 'Walk in like your Ancestors sent you.'"

Presentation Themes for the 21st IGSS include:

  • Indigenizing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math
  • Innovating Paradigms: How Indigenous Knowledge(s) Transform
  • Business Relationships
  • Revitalizing Languages and Cultures: Decolonizing Institutions
  • Through Indigenous Methodologies and Pedagogies
  • Centering Indigenous Research: “With and For Our People”

This symposium is free.

Events include a Fireside chat with Dr. Shandin Pete on March 22, and a Keynote with Dr. Dara Kelly on March 23.

This annual event is organized by the Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement program and co-sponsored by UBC's Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Simon Fraser University.
