G+PS is offering a workshop for all faculty members, both new and established, focusing on graduate supervision. In this workshop we will share best practices in graduate supervision related to:

  • Getting Started: Recruiting and Selecting Students
  • Building a Strong Student – Supervisor Relationship
  • Maintaining Momentum
  • Preparing for the Future
  • Supporting students in challenging situations

The workshop will allow for in-depth exploration of the Principles of Excellent Graduate Supervision (link to: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/faculty-staff/information-supervisors/principles...), which are adapted from a set of pedagogical principles drawn from an in-depth scholarly review of the supervision literature initiated by the Graduate Supervision Leadership Group. The Principles also reflect ongoing conversations about supervision pedagogies and practices with faculty and students across the University. We will also outline the range of resources available at UBC for faculty and students related to supervision, and discuss ways to prevent and solve problems that may emerge.

Registration is now closed, and the workshop is full.
