Minimum Funding Policy for PhD Students
G+PS is pleased to announce that the UBC Senate has approved a Minimum Funding Policy for PhD students. All full-time UBC students (domestic and international) who commence their PhD program in September 2018 or later on the Vancouver campus will be provided with a funding package of at least $18,000 for each of the first four years of their PhD. This policy will help attract outstanding PhD students to UBC, recognize the important contributions that PhD students make to the University, and provide much needed resources for students to cope with living in the most expensive city in Canada.
An overview of the Minimum Funding Policy for PhD students will be provided for faculty and graduate staff, with time for discussion and questions. We will also discuss best practices in operationalizing this policy.
In addition, the new Part-time Doctoral Classification will be discussed.
Faculty and staff who would like to come learn about the above issues, and discuss how different units coordinate PhD admissions and funding, are invited to register to attend our upcoming session:
