Thinking about graduate school at UBC and wondering what the experience is actually like?

Join us for a virtual conversation with current Indigenous graduate students at UBC as they share their experiences navigating the journey into and through graduate school. Panelists will reflect on what they wish they had known before starting their programs, from applying and choosing a program to finding community, accessing support, and adjusting to graduate student life.

This session is an opportunity to hear directly from Indigenous graduate students about their experiences, lessons learned, and advice for prospective students considering graduate studies at UBC.

Topics may include:

  • Preparing and applying for graduate school
  • Choosing a program and finding the right fit
  • Transitioning into graduate-level study
  • Funding and navigating university resources
  • Finding Indigenous community and support at UBC
  • Balancing academic, personal, family, and community responsibilities
  • Challenges, successes, and lessons learned along the way
  • Advice they would give their pre-grad-school selves

There will also be time for attendees to ask questions directly to the student panelists.

Registration Information

Registration is open to all prospective Indigenous graduate students, including First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Indigenous students from outside of Canada (e.g., the United States, South America, Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and beyond). You can register here.
