Planning on defending your doctoral dissertation this academic year? Or just curious and want to plan ahead?

We'll walk you through the doctoral examination process in this session. We'll discuss the process for scheduling and planning for the exam, and cover the different defense exam modalities you can choose from, ie., in-person, virtual, or hybrid. We'll also talk about the

  • Key requirements and steps that are part of the doctoral examination
  • Important forms and deadlines
  • Pressure points to consider in your timeline, and
  • Frequently asked questions

We recommend reviewing the Doctoral Exam Guide and the Doc Exam Planning Tool and Checklist beforehand to make the most of this session. We'll have time for Q/A at the end, so bring your questions!

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: this session is meant to support students planning for their DOCTORAL defense/examinations at the UBC-V campus ONLY; please carefully read the “Registration Information” section below before registering.

Robyn Starkey is the Doctoral Exams Coordinator at Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at UBC-V. Her work is focused on assisting doctoral candidates preparing for their final examinations.

Registration is ONLY open to current UBC Vancouver graduate students planning for a doctoral examination/defense. After registering, you will receive an automatic confirmation email at the e-mail associated with your community.grad.ubc.ca account. 

If you do not meet the registration requirements, your registration will subsequently be cancelled.
