Think PhD: UBC Four Year Fellowship (4YF)
Are you considering pursuing a PhD? Do you know someone who is? If so you may be interested in the Four-Year Fellowship (4YF) program here at UBC.
The message is simple: UBC wants top graduate students and will support those students by ensuring stable scholarship funding of at least $16,000 plus tuition per year for the first four years of their PhD studies. Introduced by the Faculty of Graduate Studies in fall 2009, the Four-Year Fellowship program greatly enhances the ability of UBC’s graduate programs to attract and retain the best doctoral students from across Canada and around the globe.
Every year, the 4YF package will be available to nearly 200 new PhD students.
Open to both Canadian and international students. All students offered admission to a UBC PhD program will automatically be considered for 4YF funding. Awardees will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, upon the recommendation of their graduate program. In addition, all PhD students who are awarded scholarship funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, or the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council automatically become 4YF holders.
Four Year Fellowship holders with external scholarship support will receive 4YF support once their external scholarship funding ends. Additional funding may be available from individual Faculties and graduate programs.
