Regulation of cardiac lipoprotein lipase

Research description: 

Among the numerous complications of diabetes, cardiovascular abnormalties have been identified as the leading causes of mortality. During diabetes, the heart prefers to use fatty acid as the source of energy, which leads to myocardial damage. Generally, my study focuses on unveiling the mechanism of how fatty acid enters into the heart, which may assist the identification of novel targets for therapeutic intervention to prevent heart failure during diabetes.

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?: 

I'm just excited to learn and I also want to fill my life with different experiences.

Why did you choose to come to British Columbia and study at UBC?: 

I'm pretty lucky to find a supervisor here who shares the same research interest with me, and a lab where everybody is nice and supportive.

Do you have any tips for students from your home country coming to Canada / to UBC Grad School?: 

Open your mind and work hard to pursue a fruitful academic experience;
Open your eyes and walk around to enjoy a colourful scenic feast;
Open your heart and make friends to hug a harmonious mutiple cultures.

What has been your most memorable Vancouver experience so far?: 

Nice people here for showing me the road whenever I'm lost.

Iconic Canadian Landmark Buildings

Two Vancouver landmarks - the Museum of Anthropology and Robson Square, both on UBC campus - are among four buildings that won the 2011 Prix du XXe Siècle Award for 'enduring excellence in Canadian architecture'. Both buildings house teaching facilities such as the Laboratory of Archaeology.
