Research

Research topic:

Biomedical optics

Research group:
LAMP (Laboratory for Advanced Medical Photonics )
Research supervisor:
Dr. Haishan Zeng; Dr. Harvey Lui
Research location:
BC Cancer Research Center; The Skin Care Center
Research description:

My research focuses on studying the interactions between light and tissue through different modalities such as imaging and spectroscopy. There are two projects that I am currently working on: (1) to develop a micro-Raman spectroscopy system integrated with confocal imaging module; (2) to build a multi-modality imaging and spectral system which could acquire multi-photon fluorescence image, reflectance confocal image, second-harmonic generation image and also related spectral measurements simultaneously. Both the two systems are clinical-oriented and will be used to help early detection of skin cancer and other skin diseases.

What impact do you hope your research will have?:

I hope my system can be used as a routine tool clinically and makes great contributions to cancer detection and diagnosis.

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?:

To achieve my career goals.

Why did you choose to come to British Columbia and study at UBC?:

Because of its great reputation and location.

Do you have any tips for students from your home country coming to Canada / to UBC Grad School?:

Try to be a comprehensive and multi-oriented student with great passion, and try to find a potential supervisor whose research interest is just what you want.

What has been your most memorable Vancouver experience so far?:

The wonderful scenes everywhere and the great sunshine in the summer.

Personal interests / Hobbies:

Swimming, badminton, reading, shopping...

What are your future career goals?:

Be a faculty member, a researcher, or a clinician.
