Killam Teaching Prize for Graduate Instruction
Quick Facts
The Killam Teaching Prizes are awarded to faculty members in recognition of excellent teaching. Established university-wide, the prizes are adjudicated within faculties under procedures defined by the faculties and approved by the Office of the Provost and Vice President Academic.
One Killam Teaching Prize of $5,000 CAD is awarded annually to a faculty member in recognition of excellent graduate-level teaching. This is intended primarily for teaching excellence in graduate course work, although excellence in other areas of graduate education such as program development or mentoring will be given some weight. Please note, however, that excellence in graduate student supervision, specifically, is recognized by a separate award, the Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring. Candidates may be nominated by colleagues, current graduate students, or alumni. The winner is announced each spring and honoured by the Provost and VP Academic at Spring Congregation in May.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies' Killam Teaching Prize for Graduate Instruction is one of a larger pool of Killam Teaching Prizes. The eligibility requirements for the Killam Teaching Prizes awarded by other UBC faculties will vary from the requirements outlined below. Nominators may wish to contact their home faculty to review those requirements.
