The Canadian Northern Studies Trust (CNST) is the student awards program of the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS). The Trust offers student awards for exceptional northern-based research, to foster scholars and scientists with northern experience and to enhance educational opportunities available for northern residents.  The CNST provides a range of scholarships, studentships and awards from endowments and annual donors, ranging in value from $1,500 to $40,000 per year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a CNST award, applicants must be:

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • Enrolled in full time post-secondary education at a recognized Canadian University or College
  • Have an aspect of northern or circumpolar fieldwork included as part of research that is conducted within the term of the award. ACUNS defines “northern” Canada as on or north of the line indicated on their Northern Boundary Map.
