Recommending Applicants for Admission

Recommendation for Admission (RFA)

RFA forms can be downloaded from the Forms section of this website:

  • select Form Type - Admission and Records
  • select Forms for - Graduate Administration Staff
  • click "Filter"

Priority RFA:

  • for first class students only
  • must have complete package – all transcripts, reference letters etc.

Standard

  • for all others: must meet minimum requirements and have complete package.

For Permanent Residents: please photocopy both sides of Permanent Resident card and send to FoGS with the RFA.

Sending RFA to the Faculty of Graduate Studies

Ensure that the RFA is complete before sending it to FoGS. Double check that all documents are present and any needed rationales are included. FoGS is unable to process incomplete recommendations, and there will be a delay while we contact you to request missing documents.

Late Rationale

If you are submitting an RFA after the FoGS deadline, you must include a memo from the graduate advisor explaining the reason for the late submission. FoGS cannot guarantee rapid turnaround time (between receiving RFA and issuing the offer of admission) for late submissions.

Low GPA Rationale

Applicants whose qualifications are below the FoGS minimums are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. When deciding to recommend an applicant with a low GPA, be aware that first class standing is required for many awards. Students with a low GPA will have fewer funding opportunities, which can make completing their programs all the more difficult.

If your program decides to recommend a student with a low GPA, you must send the following to FoGS with the RFA:

  • written academic rationale for recommending the student, sent by the graduate advisor
  • three reference letters
