The first are the UBC Killam Postdoctoral Research Prizes. Established in 2011, the Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prizes will be awarded annually for excellence in research undertaken while a Postdoctoral Fellow at UBC. Two prizes of $5000 will be awarded through adjudication by a subcommittee within the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Guidelines and a nomination form may be downloaded from the Postdoctoral Fellows section of the Faculty of Graduate Studies website.
On behalf of the Postdoctoral Fellows office we would like to thank the Killam Trusts and in particular the UBC Killam endowment for funding the creation of these new research prizes.
Dr. David Farrar, UBC Provost and Vice President, Academic introduced this new award to the UBC community as part of his remarks at the recent UBC Killam Awards reception, November 11, 2011. “It is also my distinct pleasure to announce that postdoctoral research at UBC will, from this day forward, receive additional support from Killam funds with the creation of the Killam Postdoctoral Fellow Research Prizes. Two prizes in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded annually to fulltime Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC in recognition of outstanding research and scholarly contributions made while with the university.”
DEADLINE for 2011 UBC Killam Postdoctoral Research Prize nominations is December 5, 2011.
The second new award opportunity for UBC Postdoctoral Fellows will also by administered by the PDFO. The PDF Travel Awards at UBC are intended to assist PDFs with travel to conferences to present research performed while a PDF at UBC. Awards have been made possible thanks to funding from the VP Research Office, the PDFO and contributions from Faculties. Travel support will be provided to a maximum of $500 within Canada or a maximum of $1000 for international travel.
The Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine will administer their own PDF Travel Awards and directly accept applications. For all other Faculties, PDF Travel Awards are administered by the PDFO.
PDF Travel Awards will be available quarterly. Applications for travel occurring in Q1 of 2012 are being accepted until December 31, 2011. Please see the Postdoctoral section of the website for criteria, application form and guidelines.
