GPS-MITACS Workshop on Science and Technology Writing
The GPS program is pleased to be collaborating with MITACS to present this two day workshop series on Scientific and Technical Writing.
Part I - Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
AND
Part II – Friday, November 26, 2010, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
It is designed for those with scientific and technical backgrounds and aims to help you improve structure and grammar in your writing, as well as the impact. In this small-group setting, you will get on-site expert feedback and a chance to work on your current, future or past papers. The facilitator will give you exposure to many writing samples, from outstanding to atrocious. Priority will be given to applicants who commit to attending both days, and a Certificate of Participation will be presented at the end of the second day.
Michael Sjoerdsma has taught in the School of Engineering Science at SFU since September 2003. He teaches a number of courses encompassing various aspects of technical communication. Because of his technical training as an engineer, Michael has firsthand knowledge of the requirements needed for effectively communicating technical material. Michael has taught technical writing for the Management Skills and Advanced Technology program. He also provides writing and editing services for graduate students, professors, and private companies. Michael is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and several other professional associations.
Note: Seats are limited to 35 participants. Applicants from all BC post-secondary institutions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For accepted registrants, light breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided. Bring your own mug, paper, pens, highlighter, samples of your writing, and a journal article you are currently reading.
