GPS/Library Workshop: Scholar, Blogger, Tweeter, Author: Building Your Academic Profile
Thinking about publication of your research? There are more ways to communicate your scholarly ideas than ever before. Learn about skills and tools for discussing, interacting, presenting, writing, commenting, and finally publishing your research.
In this workshop you will:
1. Develop a scholarly/publication profile using both traditional and social tools
2. Build knowledge of formal and informal modes of publication
3. Identify ways to broadly participate in your field (e.g. webinars, blogs, open education resources)
Speaker Bios:
Jonathan Strang, PhD, MLIS is a Reference Librarian in Humanities and Social Sciences at UBC Library. His diverse research interests include social media, mobile learning, educational technology, Greek epigraphy, ancient piracy and Hellenistic social history. Jonathan has served on the UBC Library Innovative Dissemination of Research Award committee and has also taught workshops on Current Awareness Tools. You can follow him on Twitter (@jrstrang).
Erin Fields, MLIS is a Reference Librarian in the Humanities and Social Sciences at UBC Library. Her research interests include instructional theory, librarianship and popular culture, and social media. Erin has developed and delivered a training program on social media at York University and has offered sessions at UBC on such topics as social cataloguing tagging.
